Been a long time since I have blogged and for this I apologize. As a paraplegic myself,I have been caught in the very position so many are and fighting to get back on track. 2 1/2 years ago I broke my leg between my knee and ankle,snapped it right into! I was in Miami Looking at horses, getting in truck. I thought my friend was behind me. As I was falling backwards my foot got caught under seat, when bone hit door jamb it snapped clean. I did not even know it for 2 weeks till swelling went down. The Miami west memorial did not want to fix it! because I was from Ocala they said go home. They actually were going to put splint on it. A case worker got them to put cast on it. They actually put me into a truck with my cast sticking out window. It was supposed to be own 6 to 8 weeks. Well when I got back to Ocala 2 months later the hospital up here would not take cast off, they told me to go to Miami. 7 months later the sores from cast got infected and they had to take it off in emergency room. The bone had gotten infected.So I ask you if this is a federal program or even state why could i not find a doctor to take cast off. Bottom line because there crunching numbers unless you are in a life threatning situation they will not accept medicaid! Bottom line if you don,t have high dollar insurance your screwed. I developed 4 sores behind that cast and leg should have been pinned! I caught a staph infection in hospital and they tried to send me to nursing home which i adamantly refuse. I am down to one non infected sore now. I do not think you should have to be dying or trapped in one state or one part of state to get medical attention. IT is a flagrant show that the American government does not care. But I shall continue my quest to show America there are problems and raise money to help others and draw attention to the problems. A big new project for my fundraising is the wounded warrior.org project. Another cause I intend to help is the permanent disabled jockey foundation. 2 years I,ve been down behind a simple broken leg and politics.
