Mr. Burnett,
While I am heartened by your desire to raise awarenss for stem cell research and establish a theraputic riding facility I must implore that you consult with a carriage driving professional. I am not saying that you should not pursue your dreans but if you are truly committed to the well fare of your horses you need to swallow your pride and try to enlighten yourself about the why and where fores of driving horses. This is not the race track and you are not dealing with riding horses.
You live in a county that is chock full of driving people. These folks are always willing to help out in whatever fashion they are able to.
What concerns me is the fact that you have your driving bits on your horses BACKWARDS. The curb chains are over the noses. This is improperly fitted equipment which could seriously maime your horses should you have an accident. It could mean death for them if the injury is serious enough. The chain should NOT BE OVER THE NOSE. If a rein gets caught on something, stepped on or great pressure is applied in any fashion IT WILL BREAK YOUR HORSES NOSE. Stop looking at old teamsters books and refer to a modern carriage driving book. Carriage driving in whatever form you chose to try has evolved, advanced and become more considerate of the horse.
You must also.
I am not pointing these things out to discourage you from reaching for your goals. I want you to be successful and safe. I want your horses to be safe. They are a gift from god and they deserve an educated driver.
You can also contact the United Driving for the Disabled organization who would be more then happy to assist you. Or contact Michael Muir who also drove across the country with his horses on a similar mission. Your horses deserve every advantage you can give them. Without them your message has no messenger.
